Name: Sky Servers
Website: www.skyservers.net
Games: Minecraft (PC)
Leader/Designer: Tomo

Founded in 2012, Sky Servers started as a small Minecraft network looking to cater for the Australian time zone and it's players. Interest in this type of server was surprisingly high, and over time Sky Servers has developed into one of the largest and most popular Australian servers. The network currently offers a range of different game modes, including survival, tekkit, pvp and Pixelmon, with even more to come in future! The community, even though Australian based, is wide open to players from all across the world! The team are even considering expanding their quality servers to America in the near future, so now is a great time to sign up and become involved!

Website and server owner of Sky Servers, Tomo, was able to answer some of my usual interview questions about his incredibly popular Oceanic MInecraft server -
Q: How did you get started in gaming?
Tomo: One of the earliest games I started playing was Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 at a friend's house, shortly followed by the Stronghold series. Once again with Minecraft it was friends who got me into the game. Having seen it a year before I bought it I thought that the game looked terrible and had no idea why it was getting so popular. I was never a very big fan of Minecraft in single player, something that I’ve put down to the fact that I accidently deleted my first ever singleplayer world. From this point on I started playing on servers!
Q: Can you give us some insight into Sky Server''s history? How did this gaming project begin?
Tomo: Sky Servers is now over three years old. Hurcoli and I started off the survival server with the aim to run a quality Australian hosted Minecraft server. We had had some experience setting up another server which turned out to be quite popular at the time, however the connection to it was really bad for my internet at night. We started off in America due to the cheaper cost of the hosting. It was quite a surprise to see how many people were looking for an Australian hosted server. Something we were finally able to move to three months after the server started. From this point on we slowly opened different servers. Hunger Games was next after popular request from the community. Mrfrase3 started off our forge side with the opening of the Tekkit server.
Q: What are your current goals as a community?
Tomo: SkyCloud is a side project that we have been working on for nearly a year now. I'm really looking forward to getting it out of beta and fully released. It’s been a mammoth effort for many developers and has taken a considerable amount of time to get it to where it is today. I also believe that it’s really important to get players registered on the website so that can become part of the community, so working on increasing the amount of registered members is also top on my priority list.
Q: Is your community accepting new members? Any criteria a person needs to meet to be able join?
Tomo: Absolutely! We are always accepting new registered members. We have a variety of Minecraft gamemodes including survival, FTB, pixelmon, minigames and more. Our servers fit a variety of age groups as well.
Q: Any advice you'd like give to a newcomer looking to start a gaming community such as yours?
Tomo: Enjin's HTML module allows you to make a really unique site. Website designs have to be functional, after all you want people so spend as much time on the website as possible. Therefore, making it easy for people to navigate and use the website is critical. One of the hardest parts of any website design is the menu / navigation bar. It sets the tone for the rest of the website so it's crucial to get it correct – colour schemes, scale, fonts etc
Q: And finally, if you could request one feature/module to be added to Enjin, what would it be?
Tomor: I'd love to see some more integration between Enjin and the Minecraft server. For example being able to display the richest ingame users on the website, displaying bans and an easier way for users to verify their Minecraft character.

If you're currently from 'down under' and want a server team who cater solely for your timezone, make sure to check out this exciting Australian based Minecraft Network!
