So I hear TOR sucks?

Invite a friend is coming soon so you can give it a try.

It is a bit unfinished and our guild is currently playing a couple of other games on a casual basis until the next content patch comes out next month, so if you are planning on trying it you might want to wait until 1.2 happens. It's not a bad game though, nor is it the be-all-and-end-all of MMOs, it's somewhere in the middle like most games. If you like story driven content then it is definitely for you, if you're not so into that I'd wait until the end game is more developed before diving in. It also depends who you're playing with - if you don’t want this to feel like a single player game and you do want to see the raiding content you need to be ina guild, it's a huge game and can feel kind of big and echoey if you're all on your ownsome.

I agree with the above only slightly...

The game has eight base classes (and then two advanced classes for each one). That's eight different stories/experiences (with two different ways to go about it). Anyone saying there isn't enough for them to do in this game is being dumb - there are plenty of things to do. It would be more accurate to say "there's not a lot of end-game content". However, how many MMO's were released with tons of max level content? The answer is none, just in case you actually had to think about it. Someone please count how many raids there were in launch WoW... in fact, I'll save you the trouble because it's really easy; UBRS... Yup...

It's an unfair assessment to compare this game to any other at its current stage, because all MMO's go through this cycle. Anything negative about the game is practically nitpicking (waaah, this quest is slightly broken!) and/or a problem with the user and their lack of patience to wait for something new, or their inability to see that there is something there they haven't done yet. And really, don't get me started on all the people that seemingly forget the problems WoW had when it first launched - hell, I'd bet more than half the people playing it were not even there.

However, I'm not saying TOR is a fantastic game, either. It's entertaining if you like a little story with your MMORPG (and the stories are awesome). It's not exactly hard, either, thanks to the companion system. It's more friendly than WoW ever was when it comes to casual players, and it doesn't really require a whole lot of time investment. That's a good thing for some, not so much for others, and that's fine - different strokes for different folks. It's fair enough to say people don't like change, which is a lot of the reason why anyone has heard anything negative about it. It's a brand new slate with a lot of room to grow, and for some people that's just too much. It's not broken or busted or boring or whatever, it's just different.

The worst part about all the complaints is that a lot of it is based entirely on "it's not innovative" or "it does nothing new" or "it ripped this off", when the same mouths sputtering those fateful (and idiotic) words are still happily chugging away at WoW (the all-time bastard-champion of the MMO world), or whatever other game they're playing that they enjoy the most. Innovation is too often tossed around as the key to success, and it's really annoying. The truth is; no MMO is ever going to compare as well to your first, or second. That's just the way it is. The guy that claimed "I'm disappointed with everything since SWG" is the perfect example. Even I'm guilty of it, because no game has ever kept me interested as long as EQ, DAoC or SWG - that was literally the birth and growing pains of the MMO industry, where everything was a new experience and unknown. The market is so saturated with MMO's now, you just won't find an experience quite as compelling as your first.

TOR is not a good game or a bad game, it's just a game. You either enjoy what it does, the lore, or whatever else, or you don't. It's a good cross between the single-player experience, and the massive-multiplayer one. Don't listen to bias opinions of some loudmouthed kid playing the greatest game ever made, play it and find out for yourself.

Sucks is a little harsh, but it does seem to get a little tired a little too quick. Once you get past the Star Wars gloss its quite a shallow gameplay.. I paid for six months only to find myself bored after only two.. such is life.. roll on Guild Wars 2.

Mate I played the game and left it when get really bored.

For me, the main reason for left was boredom, and the feeling of "dead worlds" with endless roads.
I'm a big StarWars fan, one of those who can recite the movies , but not even the star wars IP could fullfill my disappoint with the lack of real world feeling.

Is a bad game? NO , sure is not, but is not a fun one also. I'm waiting for a future come back when they introduce new species, new planets, a day and night cycle...danm almost world pvp or something.

The only think I can tell you is try the free trials, dont be so silly as me , I bought the stupid special edition for play 26 days. (I couldnt stand anymore)

I've read through this thread with interest, I was in WoW right at the very beginning... I remember boats that would disappear under you and dump you in the sea, servers that were offline for days, the AH as a Night Elf being totally inaccessible till you had 20 levels under your belt. Every MMO at launch has problems and irons them out over time... this is what we will see with TOR as the time progresses.

Personally I much prefer TOR to WoW now after having done the time in WoW it was a breath of fresh air for this game to come along. The first hour I played it (in the beta) I realised this was the game I have been waiting my whole life for... I know you may think that's not much to say but can I say that I queued outside the cinema in 1978 when I was 17 for the original Star Wars film and this game epitomises for me the "feeling" of the Star Wars universe I strived for in a game since then.

So you could say that I love this game and will be sticking like glue to it as long as it's available or I am breathing. It will get better and content and end game will fill out..... it's in it's infancy right now, I intend to be there to watch it grow and mature.

I really enjoyed the game alot, infact i really prefer it to wow. the only reason i stopped playing it is cause i don't have that much money atm and i signed that stupid annual pass for wow so i'm stuck paying for it for another 6 months or so. might as well keep playing wow for now :undecided: I mainly like the idea that for the most part you don't need a group to do quests, even ones that are ment for 2 - 4 people is you know what your doing. I love the companion system so much :d I know it's an mmo and you play one so you can play with other's, but i don't think that means you should have to find someone to do every little thing with you so you can progress. Granted you can do the same in wow even without the companion. I think they had the right idea with developing the story heavily and the voice acting, it's star wars for christ sake it's all about the story :p
I enjoy that you don't have to spend hours apon hours EVERYDAY in the game to get stuff done, i have a life and i like to live it (and other games to play :3). To me it's a good thing if you run out to do things after a while, makes to get off your ass. Like right now wow is losing people cause there's no more stuff coming out, i don't mind this at all. for one it allows me to catch up on content cause i was gone AND to farm ore and herbs  . I mean for the most part, the only people who run out of stuff to do are the one's who are lucky enough to get a competent raid group that can down the heroic bosses in like a month or 3.

People will invariably make a direct comparison to WoW. Can't really blame them. However...

I stopped playing WoW couple years back, due to various reasons, but the main reason was time. WoW required far too much time.

SWTOR on the other hand had several things going for it.

1) I like the games preceeding it.

2) It's Star Wars

3) I get to fly my own space ship!!!!! in the asteroid belt too,

4) Companion system made farming mats and crafting in general more fun

5) The story engine is awesome, so it does feel at times i'm playing one of the classic KOTOR rpg's

6) Legacy system is actually a massive incentive for me to want to play EVERY class, one compulsion WoW never gave me as all the classes were pretty exclusive. Which also means it will feel like i've been given multiple KOTOR games in one!

Now for the dislikes..

1) I'm don't like the way they split the factions from the beginning, i personally feel that everyone should've started the game neutral and then through choices in the beginning you end up either imperial or republic. This could've been done via the dark/light side points.

2) I don't like the similarities between the Sith and Jedi (I.E they can do exactly the same things, but the tooltip/graphic/animations is different) I would've preferred if there were more significant differences in how they played and the abilities they used, example Sith perhaps being more aggressive and the Jedi more defensive. However... since they have the dark / light side mechanic, they could've introduced universal force abilities, which are usable depending on the respective level of dark / light side points the character has?

In summary, I like the game and i do believe that things will improve.

The LFG tool will help alot for group content since SWTOR is strongly biased toward single player adventuring.
