This weekend, some members of the Enjin team will be on hand at PAX to test out some of the upcoming titles coming out this year! One of the games we're looking most forward to is Battlefield 3. We certainly love our shooters and we know that there are clans out there who are eagerly awaiting this title as well. Surge Gaming is one of of those clans that's gearing up to make a splash in the Battlefield 3 community once the game is released.
How did Surge Gaming get started and what made your team decide on Battlefield 3 as the game to center the community around?
Surge Gaming was established last year and generally played all games, especially Bad Company 2. The creators have an extensive experience with the Battlefield series having played them all, but also managing communities in each title. Battlefield 2 was easily the most prominent game and with Battlefield 3 approaching it is only sane to us to dive straight into it!
What are the plans for Surge Gaming in the future?
In future we hope to expend the community to gain an incredibly active Ventrilo or Mumble, where hundreds can become good friends and enjoy their favorite hobby in a none threatening, helping and humorous environment. With a strong community we will pursue media with videos and livestreams.
What made you decide to select Enjin as your platform?
We have used Enjin previously for a site and were directed to Enjin through a friend closer to the industry. Having tested the features, even what was available back then before the many additions up to date, it seemed more than powerful enough to create a stunning page, whilst have an overwhelming easy panel to manage your community.
Tell us more about the theme. What inspired the design and layout?
Battlefield 3! The layout received an overall tweak with the excitement of Battlefield. As you can see we have played around with the graphics, to give them a little bit more "British humour". We are primarily a European clan after all. The two dominant colors of blue and orange were selected as, in regards to computer game sites, it can give a very professional feel; as you may see with other sites such as MLG (Major League Gaming). They are also complimentary colors and the designers favorites, so easy choice! We have tried to keep the colours across the site to just these both if we can. The site is also white text on black, as our logic is if we as computer game fanatics can get headaches from bright pages, so can everyone else! Finally the banner animation, we had to have some surging electricity somewhere!
What additional features or modules would you like from Enjin that would help with Surge Gaming?
The ability to put containers across column divisions. Within the main section of the page layout if you create 3 columns you cannot have a banner or graphic stretched across, it must be put into the header section which usually contains a global layout (The ability to name custom global sides / header / footer would also be handy). The ability to disable the login box "show container theme" - as this means the login module could sit in a container next to the header banner but not force a border around it. Finally and more importantly custom modules tailored to Battlefield 3 such as live stats / leaderboard, character viewer or server browser, anything would be a godsend, and no greater hosting god than Enjin could deliver!
